A day out in Albany and we needed lunch and a drink. Very helpful staff with my need for a milk and tomato free diet. Checking with the chef, I ordered the lamb shank substituting mash for chips and sauce for gravy because of my allergies and my hubby the Chicken Parmi. The lamb shank arrived with a tomato puree as dressing, so I had to return it. There was no problem and they soon brought out a beer battered fish and chips which was good. They also refunded the price difference without complaint. One of Albany's original Hotels and a somewhat run down building in need of some renovation, TLC and deep cleaning; broken tiles, and the toilet cubicle needed a proper clean... Food was OK
Nice meals good prices good service
I have been to this pub countless times over the years and it was always a nice historic , iconic and friendly pub, owned and managed by good honest people who valued the customers that came through the doors , locals or travellers. However since this pub has In recent times changed to the new owners it has, in my opinion gone down hill.I Have taken family and friends in for a few dinners and lunches and found it to be very ordinary, also called in for a few work lunches when in town.On the last occasion we had questioned the quality and standard of our lunch ( in particular the meat ) and the response, or lack of, is enough for me to leave this review and vow to never go back until they get their act together and realise without the support from customers, they wont exist in business. We took one bite , it was disgusting and returned the food back to the barmaid over the bar and politely said we dont want a refund , we will just finish our beer and be on our way, not wanting to make a big deal of this , although we were starving hungry from a hard days work. The owner came over and quite clearly didnt accept the constructive criticism , got his back up and dismissed our honest opinion as if we were invisible.Once again We made it quite clear, we dont want a replacement meal or to be reimbursed, just need to bring it to his attention that after tasting just one small mouthful, it is not tasting too good and we cant continue to eat this food, we will finish our beer and be on our way.I found the owner to be quite unapproachable and depressing.Perhaps we should have called the health department and have a inspector pay a visit to ensure the owner is complying with the required standards. After speaking to many locals about our experience here, it is quite clear they also prefer to go elsewhere.I dont recommend you waste your time and money here , plenty of better options nearby, where you will be valued as a customer , leaving on a full belly and satisfied .If you do happen to question the food here, you are suspected of being a scammer, even if you just take one mouthful and return it....Crazy way to run a pub.....,,
